SOS - Spay our Strays

SOS (Spay Our Strays) was founded on the Costa del Sol in 1997 and gained official charitable status two years later. Our mission is simple - to find loving homes for the dogs in our care. And our pledge is to provide each animal with a safe and affectionate environment and a secure home with us for ever, if need be.

Our small team of dedicated volunteers in Spain is supported by our sister organisation SOS Sweden and Costa Canine Rescue UK, who work tirelessly with us to find loving homes in their countries and to help raise vital funds, and we pay tribute to their efforts.

We never put to sleep any of our animals unless it is absolutely necessary and then only on veterinary advice and we try never to turn away a dog in need, especially if it has been abandoned or is suffering.

Each dog arriving at the refuge costs 200€ in basic medical costs, including vaccinations, neutering, blood tests and micro-chipping. We rely entirely on donations and fund raising to continue our work - sometimes we face heartbreak, but every photograph we see of an SOS dog in its new home more than makes up for those sad times
