Beautiful Emma is somewhat of a miracle. She was found in a terrible state as some of her photos will show but has been nursed back to health by our dedicated vets and volunteers.
We found Emma one morning while out walking on one of our usual routes. She was like a walking skeleton with a huge infected wound on her face and mouth. There was also an old wound around her neck – it was obvious she had been chained up.
Emma’s wounds were treated and she took the many trips to our vet in her young stride. She gained weight and the infection in her mouth and jaw healed but her jaw born will always carry a deformity due to the severity of the infection.
Emma also suffers from a condition called PICA – a behaviour where often inedible objects are ingested. This is almost certainly a result of near starvation as a pup. We only discovered the behaviour when Emma ate her bedding which resulted in emergency surgery.
She is a happy dog who has settled well into her life at SOS where she lives in the volunteer’s house. Emma needs to wear a muzzle when unattended but we are working on her condition and hope that one day she can be muzzle-free. She is also fearful of men – no doubt this is something from her past.
